#65: Making Meaningful Messes In Your Home With Carly Thornock of Intentional House

 June 24, 2021

Your family is not the only thing that grows when you bring your new baby into the world! Unfortunately, so do your messes!

I remember when we first brought my oldest home from the hospital - I was determined to stay on top of the house cleaning no matter what! But I quickly realized that I was going to have to forfeit my incessant need for organization in order to get the rest that I needed in that season.

I’m not the only mom who’s had to make the same choice and is easily triggered by messes.

So how can we prepare our homes and ourselves for what’s inevitably to come??

Today on the podcast, I’m joined by Carly Thornock, a house coach and the owner of Intentional House, where she helps families use their houses to love better.

Carly was hit over the head with the realization that home was actually most beautiful when considered as a support to the families that actually live REAL life in them. Her research dives into how a house’s architecture and design (as well as how we THINK about those things) can affect positive family relationships.

In our talk, we discuss more about her work as a house coach and how she helps her clients put more energy into loving what’s around them, and less towards fighting with their house.

She also shares with us her concept of a house cycle, as well as her 3 secret C’s to ditching mess freak out!

I wish I’d had this knowledge when I was a first-time mom! It will definitely help you maintain the right perspective towards your little mess-makers and give you a headstart to creating an intentional home that’s perfect for your growing family!

And don’t forget that I’ll be LIVE inside the New Mom Lounge, Friday at 9 AM PST.

Bring your questions and I’ll be there to answer them!

Guest Bio

Carly Thornock is a house coach and the owner of Intentional House, where she helps families use their houses to love better. She's taught at the university level, she's spoken around the nation at conferences, she's designed multi-million dollar projects, and she's been featured across the globe in written publications, but her favorite thing is teaching moms who are in the trenches DOING and LIVING, and LOVING right at home, right now.

While she earned her Master's in Marriage, Family, and Human Development, she was hit over the head with the realization that home was actually most beautiful when considered as a support to the families that actually live REAL life in them. Her research dives into how a house’s architecture and design (as well as how we THINK about those things) affect positive family relationships.

When not going on rock/bug collection walks or experimenting with yogurt batches, Carly can be found binge-reading Brené Brown's volumes with lots of blankets, practicing handstands with her kiddos (I’m determined), watching Star Trek with her husband (who knew?), and restarting her DuoLingo Spanish streak. There is never a dull moment around the Thornock home, and for that reason, they've intentionally selected dull corners on all their furniture.
