#108: Postpartum Mood Disorders and Birth Trauma with Cara Strange

May 12, 2022

Welcome back to the New Mom Boss Podcast!

I’m very excited to bring you another topic related to postpartum, this time all about our mental and emotional health.

My guest in this episode is Cara Strange, a licensed Mental Health Clinician and associate professor for one of her local colleges’ Substance Use Disorder Professionals program.

Cara has struggled with birth trauma, leaving her scarred both physically and emotionally, and suffering from postpartum anxiety and OCD.

In our conversation, Cara leads us through her story and the huge mind shifts she was required to make in an effort to heal from her postpartum OCD and be the mom she wanted to be.

 Some big takeaways are:

  1. Every trauma is valid and we have to allow people time to heal.
  2. Birth trauma can affect women long after the delivery.
  3. Talk about your experiences; there’s power in numbers.

I’m so glad Cara was able to join me and shed more light on different postpartum conditions that affect so many women. I hope our talk has helped you in knowing how to better prepare yourself for life as a new mom!
